Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) and Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB)
jointly organized 1st Malaysia-Bangladesh Palm Oil Trade
Fair & Seminar (POTS) 2009, which was held on December 12, 2009 at
Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka. The seminar was organized with
an objective to develop understanding and relationship between
Malaysian Palm Oil (MPO) suppliers and local refinery owners and
importers and to motivate them to import more MPO in the country and
also to encourage MPO suppliers to play more active role in this
potential market.
A one-day seminar and exhibition on palm oil and palm oil products
was held on this occasion. The seminar was attended by about 200
participants interested about palm oil and palm oil products.
Besides the participants, about 50 invited dignitaries including
importers cum refinery owners, concerned trade people, presidents of
different trade bodies, nutritionists, medical doctors and other
professionals, concerned govt. officials and media people also
attended the seminar.
In the exhibition, besides MPOC and MPOB, 4 companies from Malaysia,
namely Sime Darby Plantation Sdn. Bhd., Southern Edible Oil Sdn.
Bhd., Alami Vegetable Oil Products Sdn. Bhd and Lipico Technologies
Sdn. Bhd. and 2 companies from Bangladesh namely City Group of
Companies and Bangladesh Edible Oil Ltd. and one NGO named
Bangladesh Palm Oil Development Project engaged in oil palm
plantation in Bangladesh participated in exhibition for display of
their products and activities. Among them, Sime Darby Plantation Sdn.
Bhd. was the Gold Sponsor, City Group of Companies was the Silver
Sponsor and Bangladesh Edible Oil Limited was the Partner Sponsor of
POTS 2009, while Bangladesh Vegetable Oils Refiners’ and Vanaspati
Manufacturers’ Association was the Supporter of POTS 2009.
Besides the local participants and invited guests, Honourable
Minister of Plantation Industries & Commodities, Malaysia Tan Sri
Bernard Dompok, the High Commissioner of Malaysia in Bangladesh and
a 20 member Malaysian delegation consisting of high officials of
Ministry of Plantation Industries & Commodities, Malaysian Palm Oil
Board, Malaysian Palm Oil Council and leading oil palm plantation
and palm oil exporting companies attended the programme.
The speakers of the seminars were prominent local industry captains
and academicians and international experts from Malaysia, UK, USA
and India. The papers covered topics on oils and fats ranging from
market situation and trade to nutrition and agriculture.
The exhibition booths were the centers of attraction and besides the
participants and invited guests of the seminar, thousands of
visitors visited the booths to know about palm oil and palm oil
products.

POTS is being held in different countries of the world and
Malaysia-Bangladesh POTS 2009 is the 12th of its series
since its introduction in 2006. The 1st
Malaysia-Bangladesh POTS 2009 contributed to establish a platform
for the exchange of information and opportunities for further
networking between local industry players and their Malaysian
counterparts. |
