Bar chart furnished hereunder would give a picture about the consumption trend of various oils and fats in the country from 2006 to 2010, which would show that consumption of palm oil has been increasing steadily during the years at a higher rate than refined soyabean oil, which was dominating the market for decades and traditionally preferred mustard oil. The consumption of palm oil, however, declined in 2007 and 2010 compared to the respective preceeding years due to substantial high price of the same in the local market in pace with the international market. .  

  

   

  

 

Bar chart on import trend of major 3 edible oils in the country during 2005 to 2010 as shown hereunder indicates that the import of palm oil is in increasing trend. In 2009, import of palm oil exceeded one million tonnes, which was a milestone in the history of oils and fats import in the county. However, in 2007 and 2010, import of palm oil declined compared to the respective preceding years due to exorbitant price of the same in the international market.
