This office
is the regional office of Malaysian Palm Oil Council, Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia which was previously known as Malaysian Palm Oil Promotion
Council (MPOPC), established on January 25, 1990. The name was
changed to Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) on April 13, 2006 to
reflect the wider scope of responsibilities. Its head office is
located at Selangor, Malaysia. It is a semi-government agency under
Malaysian Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities. Its
Corporate Mission is to promote the market expansion of Malaysian
Palm Oil and its products by enhancing their image and creating
better acceptance through awareness of various techno-economic
advantages and environmental sustainability of palm oil. MPOC
spearheads the promotional and marketing activities of Malaysian
palm oil in the effort to make it the leading oil in the global oils
and fats market. There are 9 regional offices of MPOC i.e. Los
Angeles (USA), Mumbai (India), Brussels (Belgium), Dhaka
(Bangladesh), Durban (South Africa), Lahore (Pakistan), Cairo
(Egypt), Dubai (UAE) and Shanghai (China).
Considering
the market potential of palm oil in Bangladesh, MPOC established its
regional office in Dhaka in 1995. Previously this office was
responsible for Bangladesh and Sri Lanka market, later, besides,
Bangladesh, Myanmar and Nepal markets put under this office for
strengthening the image of palm oil through organizing promotional
activities and dissemination of information about palm oil and
gathering market information as well. Since the inception of Dhaka
office, various promotional activities such as seminars targeting
doctors, scientists, nutritionists, medical students ; quiz
competition targeting school and college students ; cooking
competition targeting housewives ; rural promotion programmes
targeting rural consumers ; TV cooking show, TV ads and media
promotion targeting general consumers and organising visit to
Malaysia to familiarize the participants such as govt. officials,
medical doctors, technical officials of different govt. agencies,
educationists and edible oil refining industry & trade related
people with Malaysian Palm Oil Industry and market visits etc. have
been undertaken by MPOC to disseminate information about the
beneficial attributes of palm oil and to strengthen palm oil’s image
among the consumers and specially among the opinion leaders of the
society as well as policy makers. Besides, keeping the consumers,
traders, importers, refinery owners, media and policy makers and
concerned govt. agencies informed about the development of Malaysian
palm oil industries is another main task of this office. MPOC Dhaka
office is also acting as an information hub in regards to oils and
fats production, import and consumption in the country for the
related industry players, media and for govt. agencies.
